Tier III image selected for NANPA

I was recently informed that I will have an image published in the annual "Expressions" publication produced by the North American Nature Photography Association (NANPA). This very difficult competition had 3,300 entries. I consider reaching the top 250 (Tier III) one of my best accomplishments to date.

If you wish to receive a copy of Expressions 2010, please visitNANPA

Sidney Fine Art Show

I was pleasantly surprised to have own of my favourite images on canvas (Sideshow) approved for the juried Sidney Fine Art Show. This very well recongnized show attracts artists and visitors from across western Canada. Approximately 350 pieces where chosen from over 1200 entered. Needless to say, a difficult show to get accepted.

Please come visit the show Oct 16-18 at the Mary Winspear Centre, Sidney, B.C.

Marketing with Star Cinema

Back on April 7th I was impressed with marketing that appeared in the 10-15 minutes prior to watching a movie. I thought, wow, that is a lot of people sitting and looking at the screen with not many other distractions.

Starting June 15th, I will have my own ads for Fine Art Nature Photography rotating before each movie at the Star Cinema.

If you see one of the ads, please let me know what you think.

Wildlife & Nature from around BC ... on canvas

My first month long show for 2009 will be held at the Sooke Harbour House Gallery this coming May 3-31. The opening reception is May 3, 1-4pm with refreshments and snacks being served. Located at 1528 Whiffen Spit Road in beautiful Sooke, BC this show will feature some of my newest (and past) work on canvas. Limited edition prints in various sizes, as well as, framed prints and greeting cards will be available too.

This show also marks my first fundraising effort for Pacific Wild. Pacific Wild is a BC-based non-profit society dedicated to wilderness and wildlife conservation through BC's northern coast. I will be auctioning a limited edition canvas "Tough Life", an image taken of a grizzly bear in the Khutzeymateen Provincial Park in Northern BC (Great Bear Rainforest).

Hope you find time to venture to Sooke to view my photography. If you want to attend the opening reception, please email: dave@davehutchison.ca in advance as seating is limited.

Fundraising

I have been working on expanding the conservation component of my nature photography and have decided to assist Pacific Wild and Ian McAllister in efforts to educate and conserve the Great Bear Rainforest on BC's north coast. Pacific Wild is a conservation voice dedicated to ensuring that the Great Bear Rainforest remains one of the planet's greatest cradles of biodiversity. I have two 4 week photography shows /exhibits where I am going to feature fundraising for the Pacific Wild. The details for the shows / exhibits can be found at

It has been an interesting time to determine what cause(s) means the most to myself and how I can best assist.

Please keep checking back for updated information.

What is new?

Well I have been hard at work ... marketing my work. I just received my order of 2,500 greeting cards which should keep me busy selling. Trying to get a few larger customers and will let you know any big news soon.

I am also just beginning to produce my own original print on canvas (giclee) with stretcher frame and wire ready to hang. I really like the look and feel of the Breathing Color canvas and managed to make it work with the Epson 3800 ... even though Epson does not support it. The quality is outstanding and can't wait to share the finished products soon.

I am also expanding my private instruction for digital photography. Keep an eye out for my new brochure coming out a Lens & Shutter in Victoria.

And most exciting of all I am going back to the Khutzeymateen to photograph Grizzly bears (and eagles) in late May. I was hooked on my first visit last year to the "Khutz" and will refine my images this trip to focus on what I missed in 08.

An exciting year to say the least.

I also intend to keep this area updated on a weekly basis as news transpires.

Enjoy.
